EVENT DETAILS

For this Harmony Circle, Spiritual Advisor Albert Dumont will be joined by Moriel Rothman-Zecher, Jerusalem-born novelist and poet. Moriel is the author of “Sadness Is A White Bird”, a heart-breakingly beautiful book that tells the story of a young man who is preparing to serve in the Israeli army while also trying to reconcile his close relationship to two Palestinian siblings with his deeply ingrained loyalties to family and country. This story follows somewhat closely to Moriel’s own life experiences.

After the formal conversation, we will open up the meeting for a Sharing Circle where all participants are invited to ask questions or share what is on their heart in the chat.

We will end the Harmony Circle with concrete social justice actions we can take to help. This is an invitation to do something in a time of great suffering, devastation and emotional turmoil.

HOW DOES A HARMONY CIRCLE WORK?

It is online. Through Zoom. I send the link out about an hour before the meeting time.

Participants (the “audience”) are muted to ensure that the Circle remains safe and supportive. Participants are there to listen and learn from Albert and the Guest Speaker(s). When we open the Circle up for questions and comments at the end of the conversation between Albert and the Guest Speaker(s) we do so through the chat – and I read the questions out loud.

Participants can keep their cameras off. They are never called on. And participants are invited to attend for as little or as long as they want to. I keep an eye on the waiting room throughout the call and let people in when they enter.

WHY ARE WE HOLDING THESE HARMONY CIRCLES?

With these Harmony Circle, we want to create a safe space for people to:
* learn more about the current genocide happening in Palestine
* express their pain at the injustice of the situation
* feel that they have a voice and are not being silenced
* dive deep into the practice of unlearning and learning
* create harmony within our communities

Session Standards:
* This event is for people who are curious, open to learning and unlearning and believe in social justice
* There will be zero-tolerance for violent, abusive, or racist comments – no Islamophobia or anti-Palestinian racism or anti-Semitism
* Everyone in attendance agrees that first and foremost, we stand to defend a human being’s right to live in a peaceful and secure space
