Kids Love Peace Festival

World-Changing Kids runs an awesome annual Kids Love Peace festival as part of the Ottawa Peace Festival – a community building event for families with recreational activities, music and art.

We are hosting our 4th Annual Kids Love Peace Festival on Sat Sept 28, from 12:00 to 3:00, at Heatherington Park (1560 Heatherington Rd) and everyone’s invited!

Join us for Ottawa’s largest children’s peace festival – Kids Love Peace – an afternoon of friendship, fun, music, dancing, sports, food, art and community.

The goal of the festival is to bring families together, build community, and teach all our children the truth that it is the diversity in our city that makes our city so great.

Kids Love Peace is held in Heatherington Park. We have chosen this park because it is in a community where there are a lot of newcomers and English is the second language for many of the families. Many of these children do not get the opportunity to attend the other festivals held around Ottawa, due to language, financial and transportation barriers, so we wanted to bring a fun festival to their backyards. Kids Love Peace is also open to all families in Ottawa … which provides a great opportunity for the children who live around Heatherington Park to have a leadership role in the activities. Welcoming kids from other areas of the city into their park will help build the pride they feel for their community.

It is important to introduce our children to people who speak different languages, who have different skin colours, who practice different religions, and who are from different countries around the world so that all these differences become normal. It is important to teach our children about all these differences so that they learn that we are actually all more the same than we are different, so that they learn that we are all part of one big human family. If our children can learn about and understand the different cultural practices and lived experiences of all the members of our communities, then they will not fear these differences. And it is often fear that leads to hate and racism. If we can teach our children that we are interconnected with everyone who lives on this planet, and that we are all equal, then we will be able to move towards making the world a better, more peaceful place!
