DETAILS
Like all holidays, International Women’s Day (IWD) has been watered down and commercialized, becoming more about basic empowerment and a celebration of who women are, and less about its roots surrounding the fight against oppression and for labour and equality.
Join Lindsey Barr from World-Changing Kids and Jenn Hayward from the Jenn Hayward Show as they come together to provide a Deeper Look at International Women’s Day: An Online Gathering for Families.
This is a “Pay What You Can” event with 20% of proceeds going to Justice for Indigenous Women and their initiative supporting traditional Inuit birthing practices in Nunavut, which you can read more about here: https://j4iw.ca/2021/05/15/supporting-traditional-inuit-birthing-j4iw-partners-with-nunavut-midvives/
It is also an “Attend What You Can” event – you are free to drop in for the sessions that interest you. We know that 2.5 hours on a Saturday is a big commitment, we just have so much to share and learn about together! Check out this awesome schedule:
2:00 – 2:25 – History of IWD
2:30 – 2:55 – Privilege and Intersection
3:00 – 3:25 – Asset Based Community Development: African Grassroots Canada – A Case Study
3:30 – 3:55 – Kindness, Community Care and Peace
4:00 – 4:20 – Justice For Indigenous Women: Supporting Traditional Inuit Birthing Practices in Nunavut
4:20 – 4:30 – Wrap Up
Join us with your kids and partners of all genders to learn more about feminism, equality, women and peace, privilege and intersection, and why we need an International Women’s Day. Let’s teach all of our awesome kids this now – so they know how to recognize and call out sexism and oppression and build a better world. Let’s gather, discuss and make the rest of 2022 a productive one where we celebrate how far we’ve come and brainstorm how to get further!
