In the most beautiful of collaborations, we have joined forces with Odette Uwambaye Ndego Rwigamba, from the Rwandan Centre Rwandais, and Brigitte Lord, from the Bannock Bus, to teach our children that it is our responsibility to help those less fortunate.
Odette has been collecting warm clothes and blankets through the Rwandan Centre for the last few weeks in order to distribute these to the homeless. She reached out to me to see if I would be interested in partnering with her for this, and bringing our children with us. She also asked for my advice on where and how we should distribute these items.
I immediately thought of the great outreach work that the Bannock Bus does, and reached out to Brigitte, who enthusiastically agreed to join us!
Odette’s vision is that women from all different backgrounds and cultures will lead the charge of coming together, with our families, friends and neighbours, to give back and take care of all members of our community.
Being a part of this day will teach our children more about homelessness and provide them with actions they can take to help make things better. They will learn that each person on the street has a story that is worth hearing. Hopefully, through these interactions, we will plant the seeds of social justice in their minds, and these kids will grow up to tackle homelessness with kindness and compassion when they are the future leaders and decision makers.
We are still accepting donations of warm clothes and blankets until Sunday. If you have some donations to contribute, please send us an email at worldchangingkids@gmail.com and we will work out how/where to get them from you.
And, we have space for a few more families to join us. If you are interested, send me an email at worldchangingkids@gmail.com
