I am overwhelmed with the bad, scary and sad news that is currently dominating the headlines. I don’t want leaders making decisions from a place of hate and fear. I don’t want citizens committing acts of violence against others in our communities because of their religion or race. I spend a lot of my time teaching our children that we should be empathetic and compassionate with our words and our actions and that we are all more the same than we are different. These are messages that have to be spoken even louder right now.

Our philosophy at World-Changing Kids is to tell our children the truth about what is going on in the world – at a level that they can understand – and then give them an action that they can take to make the situation a bit better. This makes us all feel a little bit less helpless. This teaches our World-Changing Kids that they have the power to make the world a better place now.

In order to have a concrete action we can take to show the world that we believe people from all religions, cultures and races are welcome in our communities and that we all belong to each other, we have created a Kindness Petition to be read in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. This petition calls on all members of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario to stand up and speak out against all forms of hate and discrimination and to stand together in love and kindness. With our signatures, we will be adding power and strength to these words.

Kindness Petition

If you are also feeling overwhelmed and want something that you can do to make it known that you stand for love and kindness, we invite you to join us in signing our Kindness Petition:

Kindness Petition

You will notice that it is only one page. You will need to print out this page again if you need more space for signatures. Every page signed has to have the actual wording of the Petition on it in order for the Legislature to accept it.

Instructions for Signing

Anyone and everyone can print out this petition and sign it. If you are a family of two, or four, or eight, you can print it out and have everyone in your family sign it. If you are a teacher, you can print it out and have your class sign it. If you are a principal, you can print it out and have your whole school sign it. If you are a leader of an extra-curricular group or program, like Girl Guides, Boy Scouts, hockey, baseball, dance, archery tag, etc., you can print it out and have the kids sign it.

If you are getting younger children to sign it, they can attempt their signature or they could print their name or even just their initials. If you are part of a group like a school or a club, you can put the address of that school or club instead of asking each child to write their personal address.

When you have all the signatures, please mail the petition to John Fraser, Member of Provincial Parliament’s office at the following address:

More Information

We have created a one pager, in both French and English, with a bit more information on what a petition is and where it goes once it is signed. We thought this would help you answer any questions the kids might have.
